What is the difference between Rico Make It Perlchen and Make It Rocaille?

Both are 100% lyocell carry-along threads with glass beads, but Perlchen is the finer one: 255 m per 25 g against 280 m per 50 g for Make It Rocaille, so Perlchen weighs about half as much per metre. Perlchen gives a delicate glint suited to fine shawls and mohair; Rocaille's seed beads give bolder beading on sweaters and hats.

Which main yarn goes well with Make It Perlchen?

Fine, smooth or softly haloed yarns show the small beads most clearly, such as kid mohair, fine merino or a sport-weight cotton. Alize Kid Royal 50 makes a light, sparkly shawl, and DROPS Safran a crisp summer top. Very chunky or fluffy yarns tend to swallow the beads, so stay between lace and DK weight.

Can I use Make It Perlchen on its own?

Yes, for small pieces: worked alone it makes beaded edgings and jewellery-style pieces such as bracelets, chokers or a picot trim. On its own it is a fine thread, so use a small crochet hook and firm tension, then sew the finished edging onto a garment or pick up stitches along it and knit straight on.

Does Make It Perlchen change my gauge or needle size?

Usually very little: keep the needle size your main yarn calls for, since the thread is fine and simply runs alongside. The beads and the second strand can make the fabric slightly firmer, so knit a 10 cm swatch with both strands held together, wash it the way you will wash the finished piece, and adjust by half a size if needed.
